Victimology society of Serbia has on the 24th of November 2011 given its
traditional annual awards.
1. The award for contribution to improving victims' rights
The award for contribution to improving victims' rights is prize awarded
to individuals or organizations who made a great contribution to the
objectives established by the Victimology Society of Serbia.
This year, the award was given to the Association Fenomena from Kraljevo.
The Association Fenomena was established in 2006 with a goal to improve
the quality of life of women living in the municipality of Kraljevo.
Their activities are implemented through several programs: SOS hotline
for women victims of violence, educational programs, organization of
computer literacy of women programs, etc. One of the key objectives of
this organization is raising funds to build a safe house for women
victims of violence in Kraljevo.
In this respect, what makes gives this organization a special value is
their intensive work on connecting with the local community and local
government, which was crowned by the signing of a protocol on
cooperation with the municipality of Kraljevo to build a safe house.
Association Fenomena works actively to promote solidarity with all who
need help and support, regardless of whether they are victims of natural
disasters or other problems, which was especially evident after the
earthquake that hit Kraljevo.
The award was given to this organization because of the activism,
enthusiasm and perseverance in supporting victims of violence and
natural disasters. In this way, the Association is acknowledged for its
previous work and is given an incentive to continue to persevere in its
mission.
2. Award "Third Way"
The award for contribution to the development of non-conflict and
comprehensive approach to dealing with war and war crimes "Third Way" s
awarded to individuals or organizations who made a special contribution
to the development of non-conflict and comprehensive approach to dealing
with the consequences of war and peace-building in Serbia.
This year the award went to Novica Kostić.
Novica Kostic was born in 1960 near Vlasotince. He finished the Machine
engineering high school in Leskovac and until 1991 worked in DP "Miloš
Dimanić" in Vlasotince. He was mobilized in October 1991 and as a member
of the reserve composition of the former JNA, he participated in armed
conflicts on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, where he became a
war invalid. Since 2002 he is working intensively to build peace, using
his wartime experience to communicate the message against war and
violence to Serbian citizens, especially young people. He participated
and co-organized cross-border actions of peacebuilding and coping with
the past, and has made a significant contribution to the Association
Joint Action for Truth and Reconciliation and the development of the
„Third Way“ idea.
3. The award for the talented young researcher
This prize is awarded to talented young researchers under 30 years of
age for their particularly high quality scientific research in the field
of victimology. This award aims to encourage young people for scientific
research in the field of victimology.
This year the award was given to Nikola M. Petrović.
Nikola M. Petrović was born in 1984 in Belgrade. He graduated in 2008 at
the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, Department of Psychology. He
enrolled in doctoral studies of psychology in 2009 at the Faculty of
Philosophy in Belgrade and is currently developing his doctoral
dissertation. Nikola is employed as an assistant at the High medical
school of vocational studies "Milutin Milanković" on the course
Psychology of personality with mental hygiene. He also works as a
research-assistant in the Victimology Society of Serbia, and is a
secretary and a member of the editorial board of the journal Temida.
Nikola was involved in several research projects, of which the most
distinguished are the study of domestic violence in Vojvodina and the
Truth and reconciliation program that was developed in the Victimology
Society of Serbia. He has several published papers, among which the most
distinguished are the chapters in the book Domestic violence in
Vojvodina (2010, edited by V. Nikolić-Ristanović). Nikola has also
participated in several scientific and professional conferences.
During his previous work, Nikola showed excellent research capabilities,
but also a willingness to continue to learn and progress in scientific
research, and the prize was awarded to him in recognition of what has
done, and as an incentive to continue to work as before and to
accomplish even more.
The above mentioned awards were established by the Victimology Society
of Serbia in 2009 and since then have been traditionally given every
year.
